$100.00
sold out

Flame

Synchronous Firefly

Photinus carolinus

(Or lightning bug)

Fireflies dot the world, but their overall populations seem to be in decline due to development, light pollution and pesticides.

One area where they seem to be more protected is in the Great Smokey Mountains, where males of this particular firefly illuminate in synchrony in May and June to better attract females.

You can enter a lottery every year to try to see them in Great Smokey Mountains National Park.

When was the last time you saw a firefly/lightning bug?

Original pen and ink drawing on toned paper - size 7 ½” x 7 ½”

10% of sales will go to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
